Luna Salada

Location: Uyuni Salt Flats | Bolivia

Luna Salada means ‘Salt Moon’ hotel – and we can assure you, this place is just as surreal as it sounds. Built entirely from blocks of salt, it’s a mere pin-prick amidst Uyuni’s infinite salt-flats, and boasts some of the most mesmerising views you’re ever likely to encounter.
Perfect forLovers of the great outdoors, photographers, and anyone who wants to experience totally alien landscapes.
In the knowIt’s become a bit of a “craze” amongst visitors to Uyuni to take optical illusion photos (because there are no indicators of perspective you can make large objects appear tiny, and vice versa). Cameras at the ready!

Rooms at Luna Salada

Each of the 23 rooms at Luna Salada has incredible views over the salt flats, and to keep you toasty during the cold nights they have plenty of rugs and their own fire places. The interiors, meanwhile, are totally unique – much of the furniture is made from salt, including the floors, walls, and even the head boards.

Food and facilities

Luna Salada’s ranch-style restaurant serves up rustic Bolivian cuisine, and the bar is the perfect place to prop yourself up with a Pisco Sour and watch the legendary salt-flat sunsets. There are also cosy sitting rooms where you can curl up in front of the fire.

Activities at Luna Salada

Just waking up at Luna Salada is an incredible experience – greeted by an eerie silence, and opening the curtains to an infinite and blindingly white expanse. To explore the flats, you can head out on foot or by jeep, and along the way you’ll examine the hard terrain and bizarre hexagonal shapes that are formed as the salt dries in the sun. Visit bubbling geysers, blood coloured lakes swarming with flamingos, and extraordinary rock formations that look like trees, before heading back for some of the best star-gazing in the world.
