Itinerary details

Fly into San Francisco and collect your Mustang convertible before driving to your hotel, the sleek Loews Regency San Francisco – one of the best hotels in the city. Soak up the city views from your sumptuous guestroom or the rooftop bar, and settle in with a couple's spa treatment.

Start your San Francisco adventure with a bike ride across the iconic Golden Gate Bridge, an image synonymous with the city, and enjoy a seafood lunch down at Fisherman’s Wharf before heading up to the top of Coit Tower for panoramic city and bay views. Spend an evening in the vibrant Mission district, with dinner in the eclectic Castro area, and make sure you check out a Giants game, where you’ll find the heart of the city.

Get under the skin of San Fran by taking a stroll thought the leafy neighbourhood of Pacific Heights, where Victorian mansions and green parks make for a truly picturesque backdrop.

Swap city streets for vineyards as you head north to Napa Valley in your open-top Mustang; drive across the Golden Gate Bridge as you leave San Francisco behind. As the landscape transforms into undulating hills and vines that stretch for mile upon mile, you’ll know you’ve reached one of the most famous wine regions in the world.

Kick things off with a wine tour (there are over 300 wineries to choose from) and indulge in exquisite Californian cuisine at one of the fine dining restaurants. The infamous French Laundry restaurant is found in Napa, but be sure to ask us to make a reservation months in advance – after all, it is one of the world’s greatest restaurants.

Your hotel, Bardessono, has one of the finest restaurants in Yountville so you don’t need to go far for fresh and seasonal dishes. Laze by the rooftop pool and luxuriate with a spa treatment when you tire of all the wine; or enjoy the great outdoors by hiking, biking and horse riding along the valley’s trails. The best way to take in the beautiful scenery has to be on a hot air balloon ride at sunrise, followed by a champagne breakfast to toast your honeymoon.

2 nightsBIG SUR

The Big Sur is possibly the most striking stretch of coastal road in the world and a good reason to look forward to the next stage of your trip! Driving down Highway One, you’ll have the steep cliffs to one side and the vast, sparkling Pacific to the other, waves crashing at the cliff foot and sea lions lazing on deserted bays.

A few hours later you’ll arrive at the adults-only Post Ranch Inn, boasting a privileged position just off this glorious stretch of road, right on the coast. This is the perfect stopover for a dose of luxurious rejuvenation, with morning yoga and meditation sessions facing the ocean and no TVs or alarm clocks in the rooms.

During your stay in Big Sur we recommend whale watching from the deck as an expert tells you about their astonishing migration. Otherwise hike through redwoods, conifers, oaks and more in the nearby Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park and don’t miss Pfeiffer Beach with its purple-hued swathes of sand. End the day with drinks overlooking the ocean at sunset and a spot of stargazing from Post Ranch Inn’s telescopes.

Today you’ll continue your journey south, following Highway One towards Santa Barbara for a fairly long drive of four hours. Hug the coastline across the green clifftops and soak up the remainder of this incredible driving experience.

Drive to Santa Barbara to find your hotel, Belmond El Encanto, which is perched on the hillside above town. This timeless hotel has an infinity pool with beautiful views across the city and ocean vistas from the rooms and suites. Here, you can unwind in the landscaped gardens, wander down to Santa Barbara beach or rehydrate in the slick cocktail bars along State Street. The hotel also has electric bikes so hop on two wheels and head into town for some boutique shopping and gallery hopping.

If you just want to splash about in the sea, the laidback and trendy beach is just the ticket, with awesome water sports like stand-up paddle boarding to try out.

Your final stop is the city of dreams and aspirations, the beating heart of showbiz, the home of the rich and the famous: Los Angeles. After two hours on the road, arrive at the Hotel Bel Air; one of the most iconic hotels in LA, dripping in Hollywood glamour. You’ll be following in the footsteps of Marilyn Monroe, Grace Kelly and the like, so channel your inner A-lister and expect to be pampered.

You’re perfectly placed here to head into Hollywood for some celeb-spotting and VIP nightlife, hit the shops on Rodeo Drive and eye up lavish celebrity mansions. Get in some more beach time in Santa Monica, sprawled across the canyons and the beach and offering wonderful relaxation to the sound of the surf. Linger over lunch on the beachfront and catch a live performance on the pier, or carry on to nearby Venice where street art and urban farms abound.

Hit the road and cross the City of Angels to get to Laguna Beach, the final stop on your epic honeymoon. This glamorous beachside town combines picture-perfect coves, cliffs and parks with artistic flair, thanks to art festivals, multiple galleries and Arts and Crafts cottages. The stretch of beach itself unfolds for miles and you can find your own patch of sand without the crowds - although a spot of people-watching is always fun too.

Your home for three nights is Montage Laguna Beach, complete with chic guestrooms, exquisite dining options and the inviting mosaic pool lined with cabanas. Soak up the sun by day and by night enjoy live entertainment in the lobby lounge.

After an equal measure of beachfront relaxation and buzzing city action, start up your faithful convertible for the final time and drive to LAX airport to catch your flight back home.
