Hotel Overview

Sense of place

Under Canvas Grand Canyon is surrounded by acres of pristine ponderosa pine forest at the foot of Bill Williams Mountain near the iconic Route 66, just 40 minutes away from the Grand Canyon.

Rooms at Under Canvas Grand Canyon

Accommodation at Under Canvas Grand Canyon is spread across a collection of luxury safari-style tents, all supremely comfortable but simple canvas-and-wood affairs. Tents are warmed by wood stoves and most have private en suite bathrooms with running water and flushing toilets. The Stargazer tent has a viewing window above the bed through which you can gaze at the clear night skies, and some tents have adjacent tipis, for larger groups or families.

Under Canvas Grand Canyon is a magical place for kids and adults alike, and children of all ages are welcome. Deluxe, Safari and Suite tents with adjacent tipis include 2 cots in the tipi, and in the large Safari Tents, camp cots and bedding can be provided for up to 2 children per tent for $25 per night.

Food & drink

Breakfast and lunch are both available at the camp, with packed meals available to go if ordered the day before. A big breakfast is always a good idea before a day’s outdoor exploration, and options include hearty breakfast burritos, with a range of sandwiches available for lunch. There are also facilities to have your own barbecue, always an enjoyable camping activity – and while there are shops selling supplies within walking distance, you can even order ingredients (or whole meals) via Fireside Provisions. Williams is a short walk away and has a number of dining options.

Facilities

Awake early for a sunrise yoga class at the yoga platform. In the evening after a day of exploring the Grand Canyon, gather around the roaring fire pit.

Activities at Under Canvas Grand Canyon

It goes without saying that your activities will focus on the Grand Canyon, and the short trip from the camp to the South Rim of the canyon, for one of the most spectacular views anywhere on Earth, is a good way to start. There are myriad ways to explore the canyon up close, though, that shouldn’t be missed: an expert can guide you on a jeep safari or horseback adventure through the Kaibab National Forest, while white water rafting is a fun way to experience the canyon from the water; conversely, a helicopter flight is an unforgettable way to take in the canyon from the skies.
