Hotel Overview

Sense of Place

The hotel sits in the heart of Palm Springs, on an archetypal wide boulevard lined with palm trees, with the rocky hills of the Sonoran Desert rising in the background. The town retains the relaxed feel and vintage glamour which made it so popular among Hollywood luminaries from the mid-20th century and beyond.

Rooms at Colony Palms Hotel

Guestrooms and suites at Colony Palms share a striking, eye-catching design, with brightly coloured woven wall hangings, vintage light fittings and classic, mid-century modern furniture. Hardwood floors are adorned with plush rugs and rooms are cooled with stylish ceiling fans, while some – like the Winner’s Circle Suite – feature beautifully carved four-poster beds. Bathrooms are spacious and feature freestanding tubs and vintage fittings. Despite the timeless look throughout, you’ll find modern amenities such as wi-fi and flat-screen TV.

Food & Drink

Purple Palm, the hotel’s restaurant, is an atmospheric space with floral wallpaper and carpets, dark wood furnishings and huge chandeliers hanging beneath wooden ceiling beams. The food is a modern take on classic Californian cuisine, with dishes making the best of the natural produce of the Coachella Valley and surrounding area. Examples of dishes you can enjoy here are smoked short rib, grilled barramundi and free-range quail. The three-hour ‘Sunset Hour’ promises great deals on an extensive array of craft beer, wine, and creative cocktails.

Facilities

The Spa at Colony Palms is a beautifully relaxing spot, decked out in Spanish-style azulejo tiles and drawing inspiration from the beauty and wildlife of the desert. The menu, too, reflects the hotel’s surroundings, with treatments using products made from desert plants. Signature therapies include Desert Rain Drench, which involves a moisturising massage and wrap, and Garden Passage, which incorporates a pedicure, reflexology, and herbal ingredients. Suitably relaxed, head to the lovely outdoor pool to sunbathe or cool off with a dip.

Activities at Colony Palms Hotel

Palm Springs is still home to the top-class shopping, dining and entertainment which made it so beloved of celebrities during the 1940s and ‘50s, and is home to some beautiful natural landscapes and superb arts and culture. For a bird’s-eye view of the city and beyond, take a ride on the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, before soaking up the ultimate in mid-century charm at Sunnylands, the estate of the great philanthropist Walter Annenberg, which has hosted presidents and world leaders over the decades. Admire the work of local artists past and present at the Palm Springs Art Museum, and get to know local wildlife at the Living Desert Zoo & Gardens.
