Hacienda Santa Rosa

Location: Yucatan & Campeche | Mexico

Price guide: $$$$$ $100-$200 per person per night

Set in the heart of a tiny village, Hacienda Santa Rosa, which is housed in a former nobleman's private estate and dates back to the 17th century, is one of the most intimate haciendas in the Yucatan Peninsula. It has just 11 rooms and suites, each with its own unique feature - a secret courtyard garden, a full-size swimming pool, or even the swinging bed of the Mayan Villa. The hacienda is painted in bright, vibrant colours and is a fusion of traditional Mayan heritage and Spanish colonialism, and the surrounding area is rich in Mayan history.
Perfect forA historic stay in Yucatan.
In the knowThe hotel is committed to eco-friendly tourism: it uses recycled water and grows its own produce. The herb garden provides a valuable source of fresh ingredients for the restaurant's tantalising cuisine and the bar is housed in a converted chapel.

Hotel Overview

Sense of place

With its grand, carved columns, beautiful tropical gardens, and candlelit cobbled pathways, Hacienda Santa Rosa has been restored to its former glory as a nobleman’s mansion. We love the little plunge pools tucked into the jungle or beneath the old archways.

Rooms at Hacienda Santa Rosa

Hacienda Santa Rosa has 11 guest rooms and suites, which pay tribute to the region’s history and culture with hand-carved wooden furniture and indigenous arts and crafts. They feature wooden blinds, unique four-poster beds made from wood and rope, and huge ceiling beams. Some rooms feature an outdoor plunge pool, surrounded by an original courtyard, while others look over the hotel’s gardens and pool from a private veranda.

Food & Drink

Food is served either in the elegant dining room or on the terrace, flanked by grand columns and overlooking the garden. The menu is varied, but the speciality is regional Yucatan dishes, with lots of barbecued meats marinated in traditional spices. After dinner, the Bar El Despacho is a great place for a classic Mexican tequila cocktail as a nightcap.

Facilities

The hotel has two pools, one in a lovely spot set in the hotel lawn and surrounded by greenery, and another which extends beneath the arches of the hacienda itself, making for an atmospheric swim. Massage treatments can also be arranged.

Activities at Hacienda Santa Rosa

There are many villages surrounding the hacienda where Mayan culture and artistic traditions continue to thrive, and these are great places to pick up a souvenir of your stay.

We'd recommend hiring a car to explore the area, as the roads are easy to traverse, but we can also arrange for one of our guides to show you the sights. This part of Yucatan is an area rich in Mayan history, and the nearby ruins of Uxmal - an important site of pyramids and ruins dating back over a thousand years - are the first port of call, but the beaches of Celestun also make a wonderful trip: take a boat to see hundreds of brilliant pink flamingos from November to March.
