3 nightsMEXICO CITY

Your journey begins in Mexico’s capital, Mexico City. One of the world’s biggest metropolises, it’s at once historic and modern, indigenous and colonial, relaxing and pulse-quickening – in other words, the perfect introduction to Mexico. Your home for the first three nights is the Four Seasons, a luxurious property exhibiting all the excellence we’ve come to expect from the Four Seasons brand. The hotel’s location, right on the iconic Paseo de la Reforma, makes it perfect for exploring the heart of the city. The nearby Chapultepec Park is the largest city park in Latin America and makes for the perfect escape from the urban buzz: it’s home to lakes, forests, walking trails, and even several museums, including the fantastic National Museum of Anthropology.

The next stop on your adventure is near to the city of Campeche. The city is rich in beautiful colonial architecture, with the forts of San Miguel and San Jose el Alto particular highlights. To head even further back in time, check out the Mayan ruins which can be found in the surrounding area; Calakmul is one of the largest Mayan sites, but it can feel like you’re discovering it for the first time when you cast your eyes over its huge pyramids rising dramatically through a dense jungle.

3 nightsCHOCHOLA

If exploring Calakmul whetted your appetite for all things Mayan, you’ll love this leg of your journey. Chable Resort and Spa is a collection of luxurious villas in the Yucatan jungle, surrounded by ancient ruins and immersed in the rich Mayan culture of the region. Day trips can be arranged to Chichen Itza – perhaps Mexico’s most famous tourist attraction; Uxmal; and the Puuc Route ruins, less visited but no less fascinating. Back at the hotel, the word-class spa, perfect for relaxing after a day tramping around temples, is built around a cenote sinkhole held to be sacred by the Mayans. In the restaurant, traditional Mayan dishes are created with produce from the hotel gardens. You may also be pleased to learn that the resort holds the largest tequila collection in the world.

4 nightsXPU HA

The final stop on your journey is the Riviera Maya, a beautiful stretch of white sand beaches strung along Mexico’s Caribbean coastline. You’ll spend the last four nights of your journey at Esencia, a beautiful boutique hideaway a far cry from the crowds of Cancun up the coast. Peace and quiet is very much on the agenda here: besides relaxing on a deserted beach, yoga and meditation classes are on offer too. If your curiosity for all things Mayan still hasn’t been satisfied, or even if it has, you should check out the ruins of Tulum, just down the coast, all the more evocative for their position overlooking the ocean.
