Hotel Overview

Sense of place

A stay at SUJAN Jawai is all about complete immersion into the surrounding landscapes, characterised by towering granite formations, scrublands and winding rivers. The camp is not completely cut off from civilisation, though: the Rabari tribespeople live in this area and there are several temples nearby.

Rooms at SUJAN Jawai Camp

SUJAN Jawai’s tents offer a unique take on the luxury safari camp, with a stylish colour palette of greys, blacks and whites, and 1930s-style tubular, brushed steel furniture. The interiors of the creamy-white hand-stitched tents feature splashes of red in honour of the turbans of the local Rabari people.

Candleholders and lamps come courtesy of India-based designer Michael Aram, and beautiful monochrome leopard photography adorns the walls. The Royal Tented Suite offers a private pool, a private butler and a private jeep for game drives.

Food & drink

Mealtimes are fitted around safari drives, with delicious salads, fresh pasta and fish from local fishermen cooked right in front of you and served in the stylish dining tent or around the campfire. Meals are created using fresh produce from the camp’s garden or using ingredients sourced from local farmers. They are a social affair, and this is a great opportunity to share stories with your fellow travellers – however, if you’d rather a little privacy, you can arrange to enjoy your meal in a secluded, private location such as atop a granite kopje or on the shores of the lake.

Facilities

Despite the camp’s remote location, the spa offers a range of wellness treatments to help you rejuvenate after a day's wildlife spotting. Yoga and wellness excursions, in remote locations deep in the wilderness, can also be arranged with prior notice. There is an outdoor pool, which is a great place to relax poolside with a book from the library.

Activities at SUJAN Jawai Camp

The expert knowledge of SUJAN Jawai’s guides and the quality of their vehicles means that guests are almost guaranteed to see leopards up close. The leopard tracking is closely tied in with ecological initiatives aimed at protecting the future of these majestic creatures. A wide variety of other animal life lives here too, including storks, herons, flamingos, eagles and crocodiles.

There are also several temples nearby, and tours into the bush with a Rabari tribesman are available to allow you an insight into local culture.
