Hotel Overview

Sense of place

The hotel has a quirky, characterful design and is decorated with unique ornaments and an extensive art collection, which exhibits Kerala’s melting pot of eastern and western cultures.

Rooms at Malabar House

Each room and suite is unique in design. The Roof Garden Suite features an extravagant dark-wood four-poster bed, while the Malabar Suite is split over two levels. The rooms are decorated with traditional Indian artworks and are tastefully furnished with colonial-style wooden pillars. Two of the rooms have their own roof gardens.

Food & drink

The hotel’s restaurant, Malabar Junction, is renowned in the local area for its fresh seafood and refined mixture of South Indian and western cuisine. The expert chefs serve up delicious local cuisine with international touches.

The same goes for the menu at Divine, the hotel’s wine lounge where east-meets-west tapas is served alongside an extensive wine list celebrating the emergence of Indian wines.

Facilities

Malabar House is home to a luxurious Ayurveda spa whose speciality is kalari massage, a style of treatment related to the ancient martial art of Kalarippayat. This origin means that kalari massage is uniquely appropriate for treating muscle, joint and back pain as well as headache and stress disorders. The hotel is also home to a peaceful outdoor swimming pool, and offers free bicycles to guests along with maps of the local area.

Activities at Malabar House

The hotel’s location in the heart of historic Fort Cochin makes it great for exploring this serene fishing village, with the giant Chinese fishing nets for which it is famous lying just three minutes’ walk away. The 17th-century Pardesi Synagogue, with its Belgian chandeliers and Chinese floors, encapsulates Cochin’s cultural melting pot, and the Jewish quarter also has a bustling curio and antique market.

Beautiful Vembanad Lake – the longest in India – is an hour’s drive away. Boat cruises on Kerala’s famous backwaters depart regularly from the hotel.
