The regal city of Mysore is where your journey begins, home to royal palaces, temples and exquisite colonial architecture. Until the md-1940s, Mysore was the capital of the independent Kingdom of Mysore, proudly standing as one of the subcontinent’s leading centres for arts and culture even before its incorporation into India. Mysore Palace is its most famous attraction and is spectacular, its arches and onion domes illuminated dramatically at night. Other sights in the city include the toweing Sri Chamundeswari Temple, and the 19th-century Jaganmohan Palace, which houses a massive collection of Indian paintings and other artworks over 3 floors.
