2 nightsMYSORE

The regal city of Mysore is where your journey begins, home to royal palaces, temples and exquisite colonial architecture. Until the md-1940s, Mysore was the capital of the independent Kingdom of Mysore, proudly standing as one of the subcontinent’s leading centres for arts and culture even before its incorporation into India. Mysore Palace is its most famous attraction and is spectacular, its arches and onion domes illuminated dramatically at night. Other sights in the city include the toweing Sri Chamundeswari Temple, and the 19th-century Jaganmohan Palace, which houses a massive collection of Indian paintings and other artworks over 3 floors. After 2 nights exploring Mysore, you’ll be taken by private transfer to Kabini, a drive of less than 2 hours. You’ll stay at Evolve Back Kuruba Safari Lodge, Kabini, a luxury wilderness resort sitting near Karnataka’s border with Kerala. This is an unspoilt area rich in wildlife, and you can spot the world’s largest Asian elephant population with a boat safari on the Kabini River, or take a vehicle safari into the Nagarhole National Park and spot tigers, leopards and wild dogs as well as gaur, various deer species and over 300 types of bird. The next stop on your journey is Madikeri, a hill station around 3 hours north of Kabini. The hotel is a fantastic base for hikes into the rainforest and surrounding countryside. The beautiful Abbey Falls is nearby, and Bylakuppe is the site of the second-largest Tibetan settlement in India and a Buddhist monastery; guided tours are available. The final stop on your itinerary will see you cross the border into northern Kerala, where you’ll spend 4 nights at Neeleshwar Hermitage. A collection of luxurious thatched cottages surrounded by tropical gardens and opening out onto a long stretch of pristine beach, this is the perfect place to wind down after a week exploring the wilderness and rainforest of Karnataka. A trip on the Lotus Houseboat will take you out onto Kerala’s famous backwaters, a serene area of swamps, rivers and rich wildlife, or you can hike into the Western Ghats and meet wildlife found nowhere else on earth.
