Malta

Malta offers rich rewards and endless variety, from impressive UNESCO-listed historic sites such as the Megalithic Temples of Malta - the world's oldest free-standing structures and some of the most ancient religious monuments - to a beautiful capital city, which is small but perfectly formed. Valletta is one of the smallest capitals in Europe, yet this UNESCO World Heritage Site and former European Capital of Culture certainly packs a punch. This fairytale-like city proudly showcases its centuries-old elegance: it is one of the most concentrated historic areas in the world, with over 300 historic monuments, including many museums, palaces and grand churches, which are easy (and a delight) to explore on foot.

Malta's medieval capital, Mdina, is one of Europe's finest examples of a still-inhabited medieval walled city, and is over 4,000 years old.

For some seaside culture, visit St Julian’s on the eastern coast, where you’ll find fishing village charm and a pretty café-lined promenade. The rocky coastlines have scenic walking trails and are lapped by clear waters ideal for sailing, swimming and diving around caves and wrecks. Around Malta's more than 150 miles of coastline are natural attractions such as the Blue Grotto.
