Due Torri

In a building dating to the 1300s and a stone’s throw from the Church of Sant’Anastasia, Casa di Giulietta and the Piazza Bra, Due Torri is steeped in history but proudly lives up to contemporary standards of service and comfort. Rooms and suites are elegant and traditionally furnished, in a more restrained (though no less luxurious) manner than the lobbies and hallways. The décor features a 19^th-century ‘Imperial’ style with authentic period furniture to match, and hand-varnished parquet flooring. The main indoor restaurant lies beneath vast medieval vaulted arches on the ground floor, and serves delicious Italian cuisine by candlelight. The Panoramic Terrace & Grill Restaurant, meanwhile, is the only rooftop bar/restaurant in Verona and offers suitably stunning views over the old town – the perfect spot for a high quality meat or fish dinner before enjoying a night at the opera or a leisurely evening’s passeggiata.

If you’re travelling with children, connecting rooms are available as is a multi-lingual babysitting service, so you can leave young kids at the hotel while you explore Verona’s historical attractions. For all Verona’s rich history, its most famous residents are two fictional star-crossed lovers whose creator never visited the city. Nonetheless, the ‘Casa di Giuletta’ – a 13^th century house which actually belonged to Capellos, not Capulets – is a popular tourist spot, even though its balcony is a 20^th century addition. For a more authentic historical experience, head to the beautiful Basilica di Sant’Anastasia, or the sculpted Renaissance gardens Giardino Giusti. For a (slightly) more up-to-date cultural fix, head to the Gallery of Modern Art, which showcases some of the finest Italian artwork from 1840 – 1940.
