2 nightsVENICE

Arrive into Venice, the alleged birth-place of Marco Polo, you’ll stay two nights at the opulent boutique hotel, Ca Maria Adele. Overlooking the canal, within the walls of a 15th-century palazzo, this intimate and stylish hotel not only has a great location, but totally unique rooms. Each of the sumptuous suites is inspired by Marco Polo’s Silk Road odyssey: draped with decadent fabrics, and filled with hand-picked antiques. After wallowing in your gorgeous room, you can hop in one of the hotel’s vaporetto speed-boats and be sitting in St Mark’s Square within minutes. Climb the cathedral’s bell tower for fantastic views of the city; sit beneath the colonnade with a cappuccino and watch the world go by, and for the ultimate in romance take a gondola ride down the Grand Canal.

2 nightsDUBROVNIK

Flying into Dubrovnik, it’s time to compare Italy’s famed architecture with that of Croatia’s. Wrapped up in the walled city, you’ll spend two nights in the former private residence of Croatian nobility, the five-star Pucic Palace, using its envious location to soak up Dubrovnik’s rich heritage. Sit outside and listen to live music, embrace its café culture with a strong cup of coffee or just enjoy the general buzz as you walk through the paved main square. Once you’ve found your bearings in the UNESCO World Heritage Site, head up to Mount Srdj for the best views of the terracotta rooftops, go on an oyster and wine tasting tour in the small nearby village of Ponikve or hire a boat and cruise around the secluded Elafiti Islands, pocketed with hidden sandy bays that are perfect for private picnics.

Korcula

3 nightsKORCULA

Surrounded by the glistening Adriatic, and medieval city walls, Korcula is yet another treat for historians – and although the feel is far more low-key compared to the drama of Dubrovnik, your hotel Lesic Dimitri, a beautifully restored bishop’s palace set within the city walls, is every bit as glamorous. Once again, the vast residences echo Marco Polo’s silk-route travels, but in contrast to your hotel in Venice, they have a lighter more coastal feel. Over the course of the three nights, enjoy Korcula’s fantastic seafood (squid-ink pasta is a must) and try your hand at windsurfing, kayaking or sailing. If you are inspired by the Venetian merchant, then you’ll want to visit the home where Marco Polo is believed to have lived: piecing together the minimal clues that are left behind, and enjoying panoramic views over the island.
