3 nightsTAORMINA

Flying in to Catania, you’ll travel by car to the first stop on your family vacation, Taormina. Perched on a hillside on the east coast of Sicily, Taormina is beloved of summering Sicilians and mainlanders alike for its spectacular location, views of Mount Etna and historic architecture. Your home for three nights is the Belmond Villa Sant’Andrea, set on an exclusive beach and surrounded by beautiful coastline. Kids will love the cove which the hotel overlooks, which is brilliant for snorkelling, diving and other watersports, while boat tours of the nearby Aeolian Islands are also available. A performance at Taormina’s wonderfully preserved ancient Greek amphitheatre, with views of Mount Etna in the background, is also a brilliant experience.

3 nightsMOUNT ETNA

Departing Taormina, you’ll head towards Sicily’s most famous feature: the imperious Mount Etna. You’ll spend three nights at Monaci delle Terre Nerre, a boutique hotel surrounded by olive and lemon groves in the foothills of Mount Etna. Sunrise on the hotel’s terrace, overlooking Mount Etna and the Mediterranean, is an unbeatable way to start the day, and a stargazing experience with professional astronomers beside the hotel pool is the perfect way to end it. You can also take a stroll through the hotel’s herb garden and take your pick for a herbal tea, or learn how they’re used by the chef to make homemade pasta and gnocchi in a lesson in the bakery. Needless to say, a stay on the slopes of the largest active volcano of Europe also makes for some pretty spectacular walks and hikes, and the Parco dell’Etna encompasses lunar lava fields, fertile vineyards, and beech forests.

4 nightsSCIACCA

After three nights in the foothills of Etna you’ll head to the west coast of Sicily for the final stop on your family vacation, the ancient spa town of Sciacca. Your home for four nights is the beautiful Verdura Golf and Spa Resort, set along two kilometres of private coastline. The resort has plenty to keep adults and kids alike entertained, with no fewer than three golf courses, a 60-metre infinity pool and a world-class spa which uses locally sourced Sicilian materials. The resort offers a range of classes which will help you to master the flavours of traditional Sicilian cuisine, often hosted by visiting celebrity chefs – the resident mixologist and sommelier, meanwhile, will help you mix your own cocktails and introduce you to Sicily’s famous wines. Verdura’s exclusive stretches of pristine, sandy beaches are perfect for relaxing or getting the blood pumping, with water-skiing, wakeboarding and windsurfing among the water sports on offer. After four nights at Verdura, your Sicilian family vacation comes to an end, and you’ll drive to Palermo for your flight home.
