Hotel Overview

Sense of Place

Skalakot Manor is surrounded by the stunning natural landscapes you only find in rural Iceland: rivers, lakes, glaciers and volcanic mountains populate the surroundings, while the farm itself is covered in lush, green fields.

Rooms at Skalakot Manor

The rooms and suites at Skalakot Manor have a luxurious country house feel, with leather Chesterfield beds, ottomans and armchairs, decorative wall plates depicting horses and other nature motifs, and light fittings and other features which give a stylish nod to the Art Deco period.

The Standard rooms have vaulted ceilings and overlook the inland mountain, which adds to the cosy farmhouse feel, while the Grand Rooms have high ceilings and large windows, with some having a small balcony looking out to the sea. The mini suite is perfect for longer stays with a separate living area, whilst the centrepiece of the master suite is the freestanding bath in the centre of the suite.

Whichever room type you choose, you'll find stylish bathrooms with a monochrome tiled design, and modern amenities including Wi-Fi and vintage-style music systems you can connect to your phone.

Food & Drink

The feeling of rural luxury extends to the refined dining room, where delicious country cuisine is served with a farm-to-table ethos. Hearty breakfasts including eggs, bacon, fresh fruit and pastries are just the thing to fuel you up for adventures in the great outdoors, while lunch and dinner see classic food done beautifully - think roasted lamb and organic vegetables, followed by rich desserts.

Facilities

Iceland’s unique geology means that in the surrounding countryside there are geothermal swimming pools to take a dip in, while the endless opportunities for outdoor exploration mean you won’t need a gym to get your dose of exercise. The hotel also occupies a private stretch of the Rimhusaall River, where you can fish for Arctic char, sea trout and salmon.

Activities at Skalakot Manor

Horse riding is high on the agenda at Skalakot, with a range of horses and trails on offer for people of all experience levels and none. Gentle one-hour rides on the placid Icelandic horses are perfect for beginners, with longer trips taking you to the stunning lakes and glaciers of the Icelandic countryside. The most ambitious expeditions take five hours and finish at the stunning Seljalandfoss waterfall. If you prefer to feel the earth beneath your feet, hiking is another great way to explore, while glacier walks and snowcat tours allow you to get to know the region’s icy landscapes. At certain times of year, keep your eyes peeled for the spectacular Northern Lights dancing in the vast skies.

Meanwhile, for a dose of local culture, the fascinating Skogar Folk Museum will give you a glimpse into rural Icelandic life in times gone by.
