Hotel Overview

Sense of place

Hotel Ranga is nestled in the beautiful countryside of south Iceland about an hour from Reykjavík, between the towns of Hella and Hvolsvöllur.

Rooms at Hotel Ranga

Rooms at Ranga are warm and cosy, welcoming you in from the cold with beautiful lodge-style wood, leather furniture and stunning views of the Mt. Hekla volcano. The themed suites – designed and named after each of the seven continents – are truly one of a kind, with authentic artwork, decor and furnishings from the respective continents, from the wildlife-inspired Africa suite to the cool whites of the Antarctica suite/

Food & drink

Hotel Ranga’s restaurant, the gourmet Restaurant 4, takes full advantage of the hotel’s location to offer up delicious modern Nordic cuisine based on the freshest produce, such as wild mushroom soup, smoked puffin, reindeer, and mountain lamb. In the bar, meanwhile, you can try fine wines (from one of the best-stocked cellars in the country) and locally-brewed beers, and choose from the huge selection of malt whiskies to warm your cockles on a cold night.

Facilities

Stargazers will love heading to the hotel’s very own observatory after dinner, which is the most advanced of its kind in Iceland, and makes the most of the region’s lack of light pollution to deliver stunning views of the skies. You'll also find a games room, massage facilities and three outdoor hot tubs heated with geothermal water to help you recover from a day in the great outdoors - and they are also a fantastic spot to view the Northern Lights from September to April.

Activities at Hotel Ranga

The hotel’s remote location means dark night skies, providing a brilliant backdrop for viewing the famous aurora borealis – the Northern Lights. One of the most beautiful phenomena of the natural world, seeing the Lights features on many bucket lists, and this is one of the best places in the world to do it.

Two of Iceland's most beautiful waterfalls, Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss, are nearby, as are the famous geysers Geysir and Strokkur. You can also enjoy glacier walks, paragliding and snowmobiling adventures.
