Hotel Overview

Sense of place

Dating back over a hundred years, and home to the bank of Seydisfjordur for most of that time, this is a real heritage hotel, and the friendly service adds to the warm atmosphere of this family-run retreat.

Rooms at Hotel Aldan

This intimate hotel has just seven guestrooms, which have a tasteful, traditional design: the hotel's history is reflected in the beautiful pine floorboards and antique wooden furniture. The individual décor of each room lends them all a cosy, homely atmosphere.

Food & drink

The hotel’s Nordic restaurant serves up modern takes on classic Icelandic cuisine, with an emphasis on fresh ingredients, in particular the catch of the day from the town’s fishermen. Sample dishes include Arctic char, Atlantic seawolf and Icelandic lamb. For something a little different, head to the hotel’s other restaurant, Nord Austur, where fresh local fish is used to make sushi and other traditional Japanese dishes.

Facilities

Given the hotel’s small size and traditional style and construction, it's all about the beautiful setting here. There is a pool, a spa and other wellness facilities in Seydisfjordur, and staff will happily help you arrange a visit.

Activities at Hotel Aldan

Seydisfjordur is among the most beautiful of the eastern Icelandic fjord towns, combining a stunning natural location with quaint, colourful wooden architecture. Boat trips onto the fjord are a justifiably popular activity, while hiking trails can be found around town and out along the Fjardara River.

The town itself is also home to a surprisingly sophisticated cultural scene, with many artists from across the world making their home here - some of their work can be enjoyed at the Skatfell Cultural Centre.
