Hotel Overview

Sense of place

ION Adventure Hotel is dramatically set against a backdrop of mountainous, moss-covered lava fields, close to Thingvellir National Park and less than an hour from Reykjavik.

Rooms at ION Adventure Hotel

ION Adventure Hotel’s luxurious rooms and suites exhibit a typical modern Icelandic style, with beautiful wood, features hewn from local volcanic rock, and artwork inspired by the desolate beauty of the world outside. The juxtaposition of modern design with rustic elements, such as locally salvaged driftwood and lava, encapsulates the spirit of the hotel. Each room also features a selection of cosmetic products from Sóley Organics, based on local ingredients such as hand-picked wild Icelandic herbs and Arctic birch.

Food & drink

The hotel's restaurant, Silfra, is acclaimed for its ‘new Nordic’ cuisine, based on the four pillars of purity, simplicity, freshness and ethical sourcing of seasonal ingredients. From Arctic chard from the nearby Thingvallavatn Rift, to the Icelandic delicacy Skyr brûlée, this is a brilliant place to try something a little adventurous, and – unusually for Iceland – vegetarians will also find they are well catered for.

The Northern Lights Bar, meanwhile, is the perfect place to relax with a beer, liqueur or spirit from one of Iceland’s many microbreweries while you wait for the spectacular light show to begin.

Facilities

The Lava Spa features a 10-metre long outdoor hot tub, sauna and relaxation room, and you can also indulge in a spa treatment.

Activities at ION Adventure Hotel

ION Adventure Hotel is brilliantly located for exploring the incredible Icelandic countryside, and there are a number of ways you can do it: on the back of a hardy Icelandic pony, in a kayak, or for the environmentally conscious, in a methane-powered ‘Eco Super Jeep’.

You may not think of Iceland as a diving location, but the nearby Silfra Fissure, in the rift between the American and Eurasian continents, offers stunning visibility unlike any other similar sites in the world. Ice climbing on the nearby Sólheimajökull glacier is an unforgettable experience, as is a hike on the slopes of the famous Eyjafjallajökull volcano.
