Hotel Overview

Sense of place

A historic country house set in 150 acres of green countryside, Quamby Estate lives up to its reputation as one of Tasmania’s culturally significant properties over nearly 200 years of history. The house’s historic character is evident in its beautiful Anglo-Indian architecture.

Rooms at Quamby Estate

Quamby’s ten guestrooms and suites have been lovingly restored, and are comfortable and luxurious with antique furniture and fittings reflecting the property’s heritage. The rooms are each unique, with some having grand features like ornate fireplaces and carved wood four-poster beds; they all retain a homely sense, though, reminiscent of a country inn. Rooms have beautiful polished wood floors and bathrooms hewn from marble or stone with heated floors. Deluxe rooms feature spa baths. The aesthetic in all the rooms is tasteful and traditional, in keeping with the character of the property.

Food and drink

The estate’s executive chef prides himself on creating food which celebrates and makes the most of Tasmania’s rich natural produce. Start the day off right with a hearty country breakfast of eggs, bacon and sausages, fresh fruit and home-baked bread, and enjoy a delicious picnic in a secluded spot on the estate – spreads include prosciutto, smoked salmon and strawberries, with produce sourced from local farms, artisans and producers. Quamby’s extensive wine list also exhibit their commitment to local produce, with a wide variety of Tassie wines to choose from. The homestead’s bar is an atmospheric place to sit and relax with a drink, with its dark wood bar, fireplace and traditional paintings adorning the walls.

In the house’s high-ceilinged library, guests are welcome to relax with a selection of books, CDs and DVDs. A beautiful 9-hole golf course sits on the property, including the longest par 5 in Tasmania, and clubs are available for hire. Fishing equipment and bicycles are also available.

Activities at Quamby Estate

The estate itself offers numerous opportunities for activities. The golf course is a favourite of Sir Richard Branson, and there are numerous paths and hills to be explored on foot or by bike. The surrounding countryside is also ripe for exploration, and guided walks include the Bay of Fires Lodge Walk and the Cradle Mountain Huts Walk. Both meet at the walkers’ centre on the estate, and information is available at the hotel reception. The vineyards of the Tamar Valley produce some of the most celebrated wine in the world, and you can sample them at one of the number of wineries within easy reach of the hotel.
