Hotel Overview

Sense of Place

Nestled between the city’s sleek skyscrapers, not far from the Imperial Palace, Hoshinoya Tokyo is surrounded by a modern Zen garden of stone benches shaped like boats and planters that are inspired by ikebana vases, and is a haven of calm just a ten-minute walk from Tokyo train station.

Rooms at Hoshinoya Tokyo

In keeping with the ryokan feel, traditional tatami floors feature throughout the hotel, in corridors and common spaces as well as rooms, alongside beautiful bamboo designs. You will be asked to remove your shoes on arrival, which will be placed in bamboo shoeboxes. The peaceful ambience and authentic décor extends to the bedrooms, with their low futon-style beds, sofas with cypress frames and sliding shoji paper screens on the windows, alongside bathrooms with satisfyingly deep bathtubs.

Food & Drink

Dining at Hoshinoya Tokyo is a carefully-crafted and authentic experience. The exquisite French-Japanese Nippon fusion cuisine uses age-old Japanese culinary wisdom and makes the most of fresh and locally-sourced ingredients from the forests and seas. The menus are influenced by the four seasons, with seafood playing a central role - as it does in traditional ryokan dining.

Facilities

Each floor of six rooms has an elegant ochanoma lounge, exclusive to guests staying on that floor, complete with drinks and snacks, where you can relax and read a book - the selection of books changes every day.

Don your cotton kimono and immerse yourself in the Japanese onsen culture with a dip in the hot spring baths on the 17th floor, whose water is drawn from 1,500 metres underground. The male and female bath halls both contain beautiful indoor and outdoor baths, connected by tunnels. Outdoors, you can bathe under the Tokyo skies.

To relax even more, head to the spa to take advantage of range of pampering treatments such as shiki massages and soul healing therapy.

Activities at Hoshinoya Tokyo

Guests can learn Kodo (the art of incense), discover the secrets of intricate Japanese tea ceremonies, or experience a performance of Gagaku (traditional Japanese court music).

The Imperial Palace and its surrounding park is within walking distance, while a rickshaw ride around the neighbourhood is a nice way to take in the local area. See Tokyo by night on a boat trip along the Sumida River (warm up with some hot sake) or from the air in a helicopter.
