On Bali’s east coast, a two-hour drive from the airport.

Rooms at Alila Manggis

Built around the pool in the style of a traditional Balinese village, and surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens, there are 54 thatched rooms at Alila Manggis. All are built on pavillions with large sea-facing balconies, and have spacious interiors.

Food and facilities

For a really special breakfast at Alila Manggis, you can relax in the organic gardens and watch as they prepare you a fragrant infusion using freshly plucked herbs. There’s also a peaceful pagoda-style restaurant which sits on the lotus pond, and for a chilled-out lunch we’re big fans of their Megibung feasts – a Balinese version of tapas which is traditionally shared by groups at festivals, and eaten off banana leaves. Take a bit of Alila Manggis home with you -  it was the first ever hotel in Bali to do cooking classes, so this is the place to go if you want to learn how to cook authentic Balinese cuisine.

Activities at Alila Manggis

With breathtaking Mount Ayung as your backdrop, one of the nicest ways to explore is with a gentle cycle past rice paddies, conical-hatted farmers and sleepy fishing villages. We can also arrange trips to the east coast’s beautiful water gardens, or diving and snorkelling trips to the Amed shipwrecks.
