Chongwe River Camp

Location: Lower Zambezi | Zambia

Zambia excels in beautiful little bush camps, and it’s difficult to make a bad choice. However, Chongwe holds a special place in our hearts. With such a pretty location and such lively hosting, this has something a little extra than most, and is a firm favourite in the Lower Zambezi.
Perfect forEvery bush lover. Call us biased, but this is really just perfect. We wouldn’t change a thing.
In the knowChongwe River Camp can supply limited fishing equipment, but if you’re a very serious fisherman, we would recommend bringing your own.

On the banks of the Chongwe River beside the Lower Zambezi National Park.

Rooms at Chongwe River Camp

There are nine tents with thatched roofs and open-air bathrooms - comfortable but very much at one with nature- and if your thatch is just a bit askew don’t worry, they’ll fix it as soon as possible, but sometimes the ellies just can’t resist a nibble. For a little something extra there are also two seriously lovely suites if you want to splash out. The Albida suites sleeps four, and has its own dining area and plunge pool, while the Cassia suite is vast, and ideal for honeymooners or couples who want to hide away from the world.

Food and Facilities

Food is wonderful and perfectly suited to your day - warming porridge when you head out in the morning, light lunch before you have your afternoon tea, and communal dinners that make each night terrific fun. There’s a campfire lit in the evening (and on chilly mornings) and it’s not uncommon to spend hours chatting and sharing tales of adventure with your fellow guests.

Activities at Chongwe River Camp

One of the things that we love about Chongwe River Camp (part of a long, long list) is the sheer variety of activities on offer. There are day and night game drives, walking safaris, canoe trips on the river, and fishing. There’s bream fishing on the Chongwe River (and if you catch a big ‘un, there’s the chance to bring it home for tea) and catch-and-release tiger fishing.
