Pongwe Beach Hotel

Pongwe Beach Hotel is placed between two outcrops of coral rocks on a secluded white sand beach hidden among shady palm trees, creating a peaceful and sheltered feel to it. The location also allows for a unique kind of privacy as it is inaccessible from the east coast whenever it is high tide.

Typical of the 'island design', the thatched cottages have mosaic floors, handmade wooden furniture, whitewashed walls and beds carved from Mvule trees. They all have private terraces and are set amongst green gardens right by the beachfront, offering the ideal location for lounging in a hammock during a lazy morning or afternoon.  

The Sea View rooms have a view of the infinity pool in addition to the sea and also have coconut wood furniture, a private terrace and their own private plunge pool.

If you've caught something tasty on your fishing adventure, the chefs will be happy to prepare it for your evening meal: however, the food is a real highlight so make sure to try the three-course dinner menu with its delicious fare of spicy soups, grilled seafood, fresh Kenyan steaks and smooth chocolatey desserts. For a taste of traditional Zanzibar, don’t miss the Swahili buffet on a Friday evening.

Snooze in a hammock or soak up a few rays in the comfort of your lounger. Enjoy a game of tennis or plunge into the infinity pool for a few laps. Sporty types can take advantage of the health and fitness centre, while massages are also available if a touch of TLC is required.

If you feel like being more active, you can hire some snorkelling equipment and visit the nearby coral reef or use the hotel's complimentary kayaks or mountain bikes to explore the surrounding bay. Alternatively for a romantic cruise or thrilling fishing trip, book the traditional dhow to sail around the island.
