Fundu Lagoon

Location: Zanzibar, Pemba & the Islands | Tanzania

Price guide: $$$$$ $350-$500 per person per night

Fundu Lagoon is enchanting and unique. The ideal post-safari wind-down, this beach lodge is a winning combination of luxury, style, romance and fantasy, with the added bonus of offering some of the best diving in the world. Reached only by boat, you can have your very own Robinson Crusoe experience - that is if Crusoe had been stranded on a stunning island where cocktails were served at a jetty bar overlooking the sea, dinner was a candlelit affair on the beach and there was a spa with a long list of traditional Balinese and Indian head massages.
Perfect forAnyone whose idea of heaven is splendid isolation  - and diving fanatics will love it.
In the knowTake a sunset cruise in a dhow and sail along the Pemban coastline while listening to African beats.

Hotel Overview

Sense of Place

Fundu Lagoon sits on a remote stretch of beach on the southwest of Pemba Island, off the coast of Zanzibar.

Rooms at Fundu Lagoon

Wooden walkways and soft sandy paths link the large tented rooms, which are surrounded by lush jungle and are built on scenic decks and under romantic thatch roofs. Simple yet elegant, each room has a king-sized bed, an en suite bathroom and a view of the lagoon, but the suites go one better and also have private decks with cooling plunge pools.

Food & Drink

Laced with Arabic, Indian and Swahili touches, the spectacular international cuisine is served in the open-sided restaurant, which makes the most of the ocean views. Alongside sushi starters and barbecued lobster, you’ll find dishes of locally caught sailfish, feasts of spicy roasted vegetable skewers and, for those with a slight sweet tooth, unusual tropical fruit salads.

Facilities

Take a dip in the hilltop infinity pool, spoil yourselves at the spa, courtesy of the expert therapists, or enjoy a yoga class.

Activities at Fundu Lagoon

If you want to take home more than a tan, learn to dive at this world-class diving spot - there is a PADI diver centre here to help you make the most of the colourful underwater world on the doorstep. Alternatively, soak up the sun by the pool and enjoy sundowners at the jetty bar, perched over the sea.
