Sand Rivers

Location: Selous & Southern Tanzania | Tanzania

One of our favourite lodges in the fabulous Selous Game Reserve, Sand Rivers is an outstanding camp that never fails to impress. For wildlife diversity it is exceptional and for sheer drama Sand Rivers is impossible to beat.
Perfect forCouples looking for the safari wow factor – the most breathtaking setting you can imagine.
In the knowA night fly-camping is highly recommended. Sleeping on a comfy bedroll under a mosquito net with the stars twinkling above, this is as close to nature as you can get.

Hotel Overview

Sense of Place

Sand Rivers is perched high on a wide curve of the almighty Rufiji River in the Selous Game Reserve, the largest reserve in Africa.

Rooms at Sand Rivers

Eight open fronted stone and thatch cottages with incredible river views. These include two massive suites with their own separate living area and plunge pool as well as a newly built one bedroom honeymoon cottage offering total exclusivity and privacy. Kiba Point is set away from the main lodge and is for exclusive use only. With four bedrooms and its own staff, it is ideal for families.

Food & Drink

Comprised of a bar and dining room, the main lodge building is set right on the rivers edge, taking advantage of the superb views from every point. Sip sundowners with hippos wallowing below or enjoy a candlelit dinner on the terrace.

Facilities

There is also a large pool set under a huge baobab, perfect to cool off in the heat of the day.

Activities at Sand Rivers

Activities are totally flexible with something for everyone. Some of Tanzania's best safari guides will take you out for daily adventures; boating on the Rufiji, weaving past hippopotamus and crocodile; driving on the trail of lion or wild dog; an elephant bush walk; a night sleeping out under the stars, or fishing in solitude, barefoot on a river rock.
