Hotel Overview

Sense of Place

The hotel sits in the old town of Swakopmund, an enclave of elegantly ageing colonial architecture sandwiched between two great natural wonders: the Namib Desert on one side, and the Skeleton Coast on the other. The beach is just a few minutes’ walk away, while the restaurants, shops and bars of the town centre are on your doorstep.

Rooms at The Cornerstone Guesthouse

Guestrooms at Cornerstone have a homely, traditional feel, with beds carved from rugged dark wood, whitewashed wooden shutters, and photography on the walls depicting the stunning scenery of Namibia’s desert and coast. En-suite bathrooms have walk-in showers, and amenities in the rooms include WI-FI, flat-screen satellite TV, and tea and coffee facilities. Rooms open onto a lovely cobbled courtyard, and feature private verandas with seating areas.

Food & Drink

To energise you for a day exploring Swakopmund, the Skeleton Coast or the desert, a hearty breakfast is served each day which can be enjoyed either in the privacy of your veranda or in the guesthouse’s breakfast room. If you like to start the day on a healthy note, light offerings of fresh fruit, yoghurt and bread are on offer, with more substantial bacon and egg dishes available to order.

When it comes to lunch and dinner, the many cafes and restaurants of central Swakopmund are right on your doorstep – staff will happily make recommendations, and help you book a table where necessary.

Facilities

The guesthouse features a homely lounge area, where you can curl up in an armchair around the TV, read a book, or reflect on your adventures in the wilderness. When the weather allows, the hotel’s gardens make a peaceful setting for a stroll. Secure parking is also available, as is a laundry service.

Activities at the Cornerstone Guesthouse

Swakopmund has a pleasing melting pot character, with its German colonial streets a hugely popular spot among holidaying Namibians. Highlights in town include the huge, historic jetty, the National Marine Aquarium, and the Swakopmund Museum, which tells the story of the town’s colourful history.

Swakopmund is best known, though, as Namibia’s adventure capital. To the south is the Namib Desert, where you can sandboard on the dunes, while to the north lies the desolate Skeleton Coast, home to eerie, decaying shipwrecks, fantastic surf, and wildlife including baboons, giraffes and lions.
