There is a lot more to a luxury holiday in Rwanda than gorilla trekking. Whilst this is obviously an incredible experience, Rwanda really is a spectacular country that has so much more to offer for the African Safari goers.
Rwandan Hospitality
The people of Rwanda undoubtedly make this country such a wonder to visit. After the horrible genocide in 1994 the Rwandan people rose up and changed the country, turning into one of the most friendly and hospitable countries in the world. This is something that you will notice from the moment you arrive and will treasure long after you leave.
Intore Dancers
Every Rwandan is passionate about their culture and you will find fantastic displays of it everywhere you travel. A must see for everyone who visits is a display of the Intore Dancers, there is a local group who perform at Virunga Lodge who will mesmerise you with the intricate choreography and raw passion and power of this long standing tradition. It makes for a great combination when seeing the mountain gorillas.
What to do in Kigali
When returning from the mountains or lakes to Kigali there are several must see activities. Stay at the luxurious Kigali Serena Hotel and go and explore the many wonderful markets in Kigali where you will be able to shop for traditional arts and crafts. Then there is the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre which everyone should visit. The genocide is still recent history for Rwanda and they keep the memories close to heart. A tour of the memorial centre is incredibly powerful and moving. It will really put things in perspective and make you appreciate this beautiful country and its people even more.
