Planted in the up and coming neighbourhood of Barranco, follow in the footsteps of fashion photographer Mario Testino and Nobel-prize winner Mario Vargas Llosa and visit the numerous galleries nearby or delve even further into Lima’s past and discover the many churches, temples and historical ruins woven throughout the city.

A mountain treasure that’s earned its place on UNESCO's World Heritage List, Arequipa is the perfect place to acclimatise. There isn’t a more relaxing way to get a head for the city’s heights than taking some time to amble through its plazas and courtyards, following the cobbled streets past its peaceful monasteries and crumbling churches. Those with an appetite for the surreal can see the well-preserved mummy of ‘Juanita’ who, having been sacrificed to the god of Ampato, was frozen in ice for an incredible five centuries before being brought down from the mountains to the city.

You’ll stay at Casa Andina Private Collection, a hotel that matches the charm and elegance of its surroundings, set in a magnificent stone mansion just behind the famous Santa Catalina convent. Having strolled each street and ducked down each alley, you’ll make then your way to the staggering Colca Canyon.

Twice as deep as the USA’s Grand Canyon, you’ll be taken to the rim of Colca Canyon for two nights, where you can lose yourself in the spectacular scenery and embracing thermal springs. A tranquil hideaway by the river in the heart of the canyon, Colca Lodge is a rustic and earthy-toned spa hotel with spellbinding views of the valley.

Birding enthusiasts can watch enormous condors soar above their heads, hedonists can sink into blissfully warm springs and inner adrenaline junkies can go white water rafting, trekking, horse riding, mountain biking and fishing in the glassy valley rivers.

Your next stop is another of Peru's natural wonders: Lake Titicaca. Travelling from the world’s deepest canyon to the world’s highest navigable lake, you’ll cross Peru’s stunning southern landscape by 4x4 to Puno, Lake Titicaca’s popular regional and traditional hub.

At sunrise and sunset, your hotel GH Hotel Lago Titicaca is the ideal place to be, as, located on its own private island and with large windows, it has great views, but in between, we’ll take you on a tour of the unique islands of Uros and Taquile. The inhabitants of the floating island of Uros are said to descend from one of the most ancient peoples of the Americas, and you’ll be able to see their dwellings made of totora reed and built on the surface of the lake, while on Taquile, you’ll find impressive views of the Cordillera Real mountains in Bolivia.

Taking the luxurious Andean Explorer train from Puno, you’ll arrive into Cusco just in time for sunset over the beautiful city. Having spotted alpacas and llamas, whilst being entertained by local musicians, during the journey, you’ll be ready for some city sightseeing on foot. Wander through the charming colonial streets of this original Inca city and soak up the unique atmosphere, using the characterful Aranwa Cusco as your base for two nights.

The next leg of your adventure is a scenic train ride on the Vistadome to the town of Aguas Calientes, where you'll stay at the village-style Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo. With terraced hills, waterfalls, stone pathways and whitewashed adobe casitas tucked away in a cloud forest, this hotel is a naturalist’s wonderland.

You’ll be taken on a private guided tour of the impressive Machu Picchu, where you can walk around the sacred site before indulging in the hotel’s inviting spa and Andean sauna.

Catching the Vistadome to the Sacred Valley, you’ll stay two nights at the Sol y Luna, which is nestled within a 25-acre oasis of bird and flower-filled gardens. As well as delicious local dishes and superb wines, activity and adventure are also on the menu, whether you are interested in day treks, paragliding, quad biking, white water rafting or canoeing on Lake Huaypo. After an incredibly in-depth adventure through Peru’s historic sites, it’s now time for an unforgettable rainforest experience, an epic finale to your Peruvian holiday. Having flown to Puerto Maldonado, you’ll be taken to the city’s port to head downriver in a dug-out canoe to Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica. Surrounded by Amazon jungle and a cacophony of colourful wildlife, this is an exhilarating addition to your trip.
