2 nightsMEXICO CITY

There’s no better place to begin your adventure than Mexico City, the country’s capital and one of the world’s biggest cities. By turns laid-back, exhilarating, traditional and modern, this is a fascinating snapshot of Central America’s colourful history. In the Zocalo, the iconic main square, the vast Metropolitan Cathedral stands as a regal reminder of Spanish colonialism; next door is the Templo Mayor, the ruins of an Aztec temple. You will stay in the ultimate style in the Four Seasons, an elegant property with easy access to the city’s historic and cultural attractions and the luxurious restaurants of the Paseo de la Reforma.

3 nightsSAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE

The next stop on your adventure in San Miguel de Allende, in the highlands of central Mexico. Known for its beautiful colonial architecture and thriving cultural scene, this is a pleasant city which presents a picture of a different Mexico to the fast-paced bustle of Mexico City. You’ll spend three nights at Rosewood San Miguel, a beautiful property set in a colonial-style hacienda. The pretty San Miguel is popular among artists and photographers, and you can brush up on your own skills with a range of painting workshops at the hotel; cookery classes are also on offer, where you can learn some of the secrets of Mexican cuisine. A sense of mystery pervades San Miguel’s historic centre: on the cobbled streets are said to be 10,000 doors, leading to 10,000 courtyards.

3 nightsCOMALA

Next up you’ll visit the state of Colima, where you’ll spend three nights at a genuine 19^th-century hacienda. Hacienda de San Antonio was built on the production of coffee in the surrounding highlands, and you can still learn all about coffee roasting and taste the results at the hotel. Besides coffee, the ranch produces a vast range of organic fruit ad veg in its orchards, and the farm is home to llamas, cows, pigs, chickens and ducks. Other activities include horseback rides and hikes to the mighty Volcan de Fuego, which looms above the hotel; constantly active, smoke can often be seen billowing ominously from its crater.

4 nightsCOSTA ALEGRE

The final stop on your adventure is Las Alamandas, an exclusive luxury resort on the Pacific coastline of Costa Alegres, halfway between Puerto Vallarta and Manzanillo. After a week pounding the streets of Mexico City and San Miguel, and exploring the volcanic foothills of Colima, this is just the place to put your feet up and enjoy the private white sand beaches and views of the sweeping bay. If you’re feeling a little more energetic, surfing, kayaking and scuba diving are all on offer; back on dry land, try horseback riding and mountain biking.
