The mighty Arenal Volcano is undoubtedly one of Costa Rica’s best known attractions, and a hike up the neighbouring Cerro Chato offers fabulous views, before reaching a shimmering lagoon in the sunken crater at the top. Warmed by the Caribbean Sea, Tortuguero, meaning ‘land of the turtles’, is one of the most important nesting sites in the western hemisphere for the endangered green turtle. To get to it, there’s no road access, so we recommend a magical boat trip down the Caribbean Coast canals, passing sloths and monkeys on the way.

A holiday along the Northern Pacific Coast has it all; tropical rainforests, volcanoes and some of the best surfing beaches in the world. Spanning the north-western corner of Costa Rica, the Guanacaste province boasts beautiful stretches of beach, great diving, and superb places to chill.
