Hotel Overview

Sense of place

Galle Fort Hotel is located right in the heart of Galle’s Dutch colonial fort, on Sri Lanka’s south coast.

Rooms at Galle Fort Hotel

The rooms and suites have a soothing minimalist feel - exactly what you’ll want after the heat of the day. The antique four-poster beds, wooden shutters and mahogany cabinets filled with 18th-century china transport you to the days of the Dutch East India company. Many face into the central colonnaded courtyard with its pool and blossom-scattered gardens.

The wide verandas and a colonnaded court evoke its former life as a gem merchant's mansion.

Food & drink

Many will say that the Galle Fort Hotel has best food in Galle – if not Sri Lanka – but we’ll leave it to you to decide, having sampled the delicate mango salads with blue swimmer crab meat, Thai curry with yellow fin tuna, and other exceptional examples of Asian fusion cuisine inspired by Thailand, Malaysia, and Vietnam. We also love the relaxed breakfasts here, which are served on the peaceful veranda.

Facilities

Enjoy a dip in the pool and relaxing in the garden courtyard.

Activities at Galle Fort Hotel

During the day, the coffee shop and bar in front of Galle Fort Hotel have a real buzz about them, with locals heading here to relax and sip an ice-cold beer or faluda (a traditional drink made with rose petal syrup and tapioca pearls). The evening is the best time to take a tour with a resident, amongst the colonial buildings, craft markets and colourfully-painted bullock carts, before a sunset walk along the fort ramparts.
