Hotel Overview

Sense of place

Glimpses of Cochin’s colonial past, and the hotel’s former life as the home of the East India Company, are evident from the moment that you set foot in the lobby, where period English artworks adorn the walls. Traditional Keralan culture is also celebrated, though, in the vivid performances of music and dance staged in its rooftop open-air theatre.

Rooms at Fragrant Nature

Fragrant Nature’s rooms and suites, spread across three floors, are luxurious and uniquely designed in a style which blends modern contemporary design with traditional Indian touches. The Duke’s Chambers offer breathtaking views of the harbour and are spread over separate levels, with a luxurious colonial design. Ocean Blue Suites feature spacious balconies overlooking the ocean, as does the opulent Royal Dutch suite, which is decorated with plush period furnishings.

Food & drink

Cuisines from across the world are represented at the all-day Zamorin restaurant, which features extensive choices for the health-conscious and those watching their waistline. For an indulgent dinner, visit the Flint House speciality restaurant for delicious grilled dishes. For an al fresco light bite, head to the Pool Café, where sandwiches, cakes and a range of drinks are available all day long.

Facilities

Fragrant Nature’s most unique feature is its rooftop terrace lounge, which features an open-air theatre where colourful Keralan dance and musical performances are staged. There is also a beautiful outdoor swimming pool, perfect for lounging beside after a day exploring Cochin, and a fitness centre if you’re looking to work up a sweat. At Prana Wellness Spa, a range of Ayurvedic treatments are on offer to help you relax and recharge.

Activities at Fragrant Nature

Cochin is characterised by a unique melting pot of cultures, a result of its centuries welcoming traders from across the world, and in particular the Far East. Its famous giant Chinese fishing nets will catch your eye as you walk along the harbour, but the city’s Jewish history is just as fascinating. The Paradesi synagogue dates from 1568 and features Chinese flooring and Belgian chandeliers, and the Jewish quarter is home to bustling markets. The 16th-century Matancherry Palace, a gift from the Portuguese settlers, reflects Kerala’s European colonial history, as does St. Francis Church, which is believed to be the oldest European-built church in India. Guided spice walks through the city’s warehouses and bazaars are a feast for the senses, and your purchases can be taken back to the hotel to be used in a cooking class with the chef.
