Hotel Overview

Sense of Place

Vakkaru sits on its own island in the Baa Atoll, surrounded by pristine beaches and coral reefs, offering a perfect island hideaway.

Rooms at Vakkaru

The resort's contemporary design fuses traditional Maldivian style and natural materials with modern luxury to provide wow-factor accommodation. There are bungalows, villas and suites on the beach, nestled amongst the coconut palms and tropical gardens, which sit right on the fine white sand and have private beachfront terraces. The thatched-roof overwater villas offer the ultimate romantic getaway or family retreat, with private sundecks and direct lagoon access, and there’s even a four-bedroom villa for a grand getaway with family or friends.

The accommodation comes with plush beds (some four-poster), hi-tech entertainment systems, gourmet mini-bars and indoor and outdoor showers, and some have private pools. Sunbeds, yoga mats, beach bags and flip flops are provided in your room to help you unwind. And then there’s the stunning views, as well as the butler service…

Food & Drink

Indulge in chic island style at Vakkaru's four restaurants, which combine fresh organic ingredients from the resort’s farm with recipes from Europe to Asia to create delicious dishes. Enjoy the a la carte menu at Amaany or head to Vakku for just-caught grilled fish by the beach or Isoletta for Italian cuisine. Celebrating a special occasion? Dine beneath the stars in a secluded setting on the island for an evening to remember.

Refresh yourself during a lazy afternoon in the sun with tempting cocktails at the poolside Cabana bar, while romantic sunsets can be enjoyed in style at the Lagoon bar - a sophisticated al fresco lounge space with a premium drinks menu, as well as tapas and sushi.

Facilities

Pamper yourself in the overwater spa, which offers a temptingly wide range of therapies and treatments, from facials and massages to yoga, or work up a sweat in the gym or with a game of tennis or volleyball.

Activities at Vakkaru

Spend your days snorkelling and diving around the house reef and the deep blue holes, or take boat rides out to Hanifaru Bay to spot whale sharks, swim with manta rays and dolphins or go fishing at sunset. Guests with a passion for the underwater world can scuba dive with accredited PADI dive instructors or even join an expedition with an expert marine biologist.

Back on dry land, grab a bicycle to circumnavigate the island's tropical interior on two wheels. Meanwhile, younger guests will love the extensive facilities at the children's clubs, and tailored activities include visits to nearby islands and traditional Maldivian pole fishing. For a dose of culture, visit the nearby island of Thulhaadhoo, where locals still create traditional lacquer artefacts which were historically made for the country’s noble families.
