The easternmost of the Balearics, Menorca is noticeably more low-key than its neighbouring islands, and is perfect for a luxury holiday in Spain - and is ideal for family holidays too. Declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO back in 1993, Menorca’s environmental areas, wetlands and Bronze Age sites are protected gems to be admired by visitors to the island.
On the west side, explore the maze-like Ciutadella while in the east, the island’s capital, Mahon or Mao, is home to Georgian-style houses and a picturesque harbour. Soak up some history with a visit to the Santa Maria church in the Placa de la Constitucio. Out of the city, hike along the many winding coastal trails and tracks.
On the coast, the light sapphire waters (closely resembling those of the Caribbean in fact) are ideal for a Menorca beach holiday. Soft waves lap at the sun-bleached white sands and craggy rocks form fascinating caves, plus one of our favourite hotels, the luxurious Menorca Experimental, offers stunning sea views.
