L'Andana

Location: Florence and Tuscany | Italy

Price guide: $$$$$ $100-$200 per person per night

L’Andana (which means 'avenue of trees') sits on a 1,250-acre nature reserve in the Maremma region, which featured in Dante’s The Divine Comedy. At the time, it was no more than wetlands teeming with wildlife but then flourished into Roman and Etruscan cities, making it an archaeological treasure trove today. L’Andana does pastoral perfection at its best. Once a summer house for Grand Duke Leopold II, the hotel has a unique style - a combination of rustic and French décor. With its idyllic woodlands and olive groves, it offers unrefined natural beauty paired with the glamour of nearby yachts and private beach terraces in Argentario.
Perfect forThose who want to relax and unwind in a tranquil retreat by the vineyards and beaches of rural Tuscany.
In the knowOwned by the Morretti family, who are famed for their Italian wine production, this vineyard-surrounded haven is perfect for wine aficionados.

Hotel Overview

Sense of place

L’Andana is located on a beautiful nature reserve near Castiglione della Pescaia, a medieval hillside town overlooking the coast. It is 12km from the Le Mortelle winery and 12km from the Tyrrhenian Sea.

Rooms at L'Andana

L’Andana’s light and airy rooms are designed for rest and relaxation. The comforting simplicity of the stone fireplaces and delicate peach-toned walls contrast with exquisite gilded or quilt-framed beds and luxurious armchairs. The wooden and marble bathrooms tie in with the hotel’s carefully-crafted combination of rustic and elegant décor. The rooms can be configured for families, including mezzanine levels with extra beds and interconnecting rooms. Enjoy views over the vines and olive groves, and some look out over the sea.

Food & Drink

The most special experience of L’Andana dining is the gourmet Tuscan picnics, with delicious hampers are put together by the chefs to be enjoyed in the beautiful Maremma countryside. Another exclusive treat is dinner at the Michelin-starred La Trattoria, a charming granary converted into a restaurant that serves authentic Tuscan cuisine, including fresh seafood and fresh-egg pasta, in terracotta plates and bowls. You can also enjoy casual dining such as pizza at the hotel's second restaurant.

The hotel produces its own wines and olive oil - indulge in a wine tasting and enjoy a cooking class in the hotel's historic kitchen, so you can learn how to prepare a classic Tuscan feast for yourself.

Facilities

Indulge in the spa - designed by architect Ettore Mocchetti, this is the place to spoil and pamper yourself in a romantic setting, created by the high ceiling vaults, warm colours and scented candles. The treatments on offer use natural products such as essential oils, plant extracts and sea salts, to revitalise your body and mind. You can also relax in and by the tree-lined pool, and there's a separate pool for children and a small children's club.

Activities at L'Andana

The hotel is just a stone’s throw away from the historic town of Castiglione della Pescaia, where you can watch fishermen mooring their boats for the evening over a glass of local wine, most likely sourced from the Le Mortelle winery (in high season, there is a shuttle service to the town). A 45-minute drive will bring you to Pitigliano, a medieval town built into the rocks known as Little Jerusalem.

You can take bikes from the hotel to explore the vineyards and the beaches on the Maremma coastline - some are good for sunbathing, others are great for adventures such as kite surfing.
