Hotel Overview

Sense of place

Surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and citrus trees, there’s a magical atmosphere around Kinsterna, which overlooks the fortress island town of Monemvasia from its position high in the hills. Architecturally the mansion reflects its long history, and is a melting pot of Byzantine, Ottoman, Venetian and modern design.

Rooms at Kinsterna Hotel

Kinsterna’s rooms and suites make the most of their historic setting, with beautiful exposed stonework on the walls and woodwork in the ceilings and original features and fireplaces, alngside luxurious furnishingsm polished wooden floors and a tasteful, muted colour scheme. As well as rooms and suites in the main building, there are also apartments scattered amid the gardens, and two Kinsterna Villas, for extra privacy and exclusivity.

Food & drink

The Kinsterna restaurant serves delicious Greek haute cuisine with vegetables, fruit, bread, wine and olive oil all produced onsite using the fruits of the hotel’s 40-acre estate. An emphasis is also placed on sustainability and the use of local meat and fish, the latter being a particular speciality. For a more informal but no less delicious meal, the Taverna restaurant, which has its own wooden olive press, serves up comforting traditional Greek cuisine, and is open twice a week throughout the summer.

Facilities

The hotel takes its name from the Byzantine word for ‘cistern’, and it has channelled this natural spring water feature into its beautiful pool. At the acclaimed spa, local natural ingredients are incorporated into an extensive range of treatments, such as a honey detox massage, a grape seed exfoliating treatment, and an orange scrub. The spa features indoor and outdoor Jacuzzis and an Ottoman-style hammam.

In the Kinsterna boutique, you can buy some of the estate’s produce that you’ve been enjoying during your stay, such as wine and extra virgin olive oil, as well as local antiques and handicrafts.

Activities at Kinsterna Hotel

About 20 minutes’ drive up the coast is the medieval castle of Monemvasia, which dominates a small island and town of the same name connected to the mainland by a causeway. The Mediterranean’s oldest ‘lost city’, Pavlopetri, lies submerged off the coast nearby.
