La Mirande

Location: Provence | France

Originally a 14th century cardinal’s mansion, La Miranda combines its long heritage of hosting travellers with its history as a grand and opulent home. Having spent three years redesigning the hotel with a Parisian interior designer and a local architect, La Mirande has been fully restored to its former grandeur.
Perfect forThose in search of a city break mixed with much needed rest and recuperation- the cobbled streets of the old town are pedestrianised, making this one of the quietest city hotels you’ll ever find with everything on your doorstep.
In the knowIf you can, coincide your visit with the hotel’s monthly cooking class held in the basement kitchen, where top chefs will guide you on how to pick the best ingredients in the local market and will then show you how to cook local specialities in the 19th century wood-fired stove. At the end of the lesson, you will be able to dine on the four prepared courses, accompanied by four delicious wines.

Hotel Overview

Where

La Mirande has a prime position sitting opposite the former popes’ palace, the Palais des Papes in the heart of Avignon.

Rooms at La Mirande

The smart rooms have an English country-house style and all but three have fine views of the Papal Palace. If you’re in town for a night or so, go for the Deluxe room, but if you are staying longer, then you’ll want the extra space the Grand Deluxe rooms afford. Whichever room, expect an uncluttered, period feel throughout, with smart tapestries on the walls, sisal matting on polished wood floors and beautifully upholstered armchairs.

Food and facilities

In the morning, breakfast is served either in the garden or in a pretty room overlooking it with a fine selection of American and continental dishes. During the day, you can order light snacks, such as club sandwiches, chicken salads and charcuterie platters, in the drawing room bar or on the patio and have afternoon tea with extremely tempting cakes and biscuits on display on the terrace. Dinner at La Miranda is the main attraction where foodies and gourmands can feast on the organic, a la carte menu or the 7-course tasting menu of Provencal highlights, which include foie gras, roast pigeon, magnificent cheeses and chocolate served with Camargue sea salt and caramel ice cream. If you can tear your eyes away from the edible masterpieces, make sure to look at the impressive original ceiling and hanging wall tapestries.

Activities at La Mirande

Explore Avignon as it should be explored- by foot. Walk out of the hotel, turn right and follow the pedestrian walkways to see the historic capital in all its glory. Visit the Palais des Papes, the Avignon Cathedral and the lush gardens of the Rocher des Doms- all within a five minute walk from the hotel. When your feet get tired, return to La Mirande, grab a good book and sink into the cosy armchairs by the fire in the Salon Rouge living room.
