Peppers Cradle Mountain Lodge

In north-western Tasmania, on the edge of the Cradle Mountain and Lake St Clair National Park.

Cradle Mountain Lodge’s 86 wooden cabins are dotted amid pine trees, near the edge of a sleepy lake where the resident platypus and wallabies can often be found. Rustic from the outside and contemporary on the inside, the cabins are roomy and bright; there are also larger options for families keen for a taste of the wilderness.

The Highland Restaurant has a diverse menu which changes seasonally and uses regional ingredients like Tasmanian pork and lamb, with a selection of the area’s best wines.  The Tavern Bar and Bistro is a casual, cosy bar, complete with leather armchairs and fireplace, for winding down with a drink in the evening. After a day in the great outdoors, the Waldheim Alpine Spa offers a host of treatments to restore and relax – and we love the hot tub looking out over the woods.

With the national parkland on your doorstep to explore, there’s plenty on offer when it comes to activities with ranges of hiking trails for varying abilities, as well as walks straight from the lodge to the nearby Pencil Pine Falls and Knyvet Falls. Also close by is the Tasmanian Devil sanctuary where you can visit for a night feeding tour.
