Hotel Overview

Sense of Place

Orpheus Island Lodge is nestled in the sheltered Hazard Bay on the western side of Orpheus Island, in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef.

Rooms at Orpheus Island Lodge

The 14 stylish rooms and suites, plus a spacious villa, all face the beach, surrounded by lush tropical gardens. With their laid-back luxe vibe and plush interiors with natural colour schemes and blond timbers, they definitely have the 'wow' factor - topped off by indoor/outdoor bathrooms and private terraces with panoramic Coral Sea views, languid sea breezes and serene Orpheus sunsets, just a stone's throw from the water's edge.

Food & Drink

Well suited to the island’s tropical environment, the Orpheus restaurant offers light, contemporary and daily-changing gourmet menus that showcase the riches of the region as well as international flavours, from picnic hampers to take to the beach to tapas dishes. Meals are tailored to suit you, and celebrate a bounty of locally-sourced, wholesome and freshly-caught and grown seasonal delights, as well as vegetables from the Orpheus gardens. For a special occasion, dine on the starlit pier, perched above the sea.

To accompany your meal, sample some of the country's most renowned wine regions. Enjoy more of Australia’s fine wines and beers in the bar, or linger over a poolside cocktail.

Facilities

Unwind in the inviting infinity pool or the Gwandalan spa - Gwandalan means ‘rest and peace’ in the aboriginal language, and its wide range of treatments is inspired by ancient indigenous therapies, and they feature pure Australian botanicals.

Activities at Orpheus Island Lodge

As well as numerous beautiful beaches to relax on and walking tracks through the national park, the fringing reef surrounding Orpheus is one of the Great Barrier Reef's most spectacular and diverse marine wonderlands. Borrow one of the lodge’s paddle boards or kayaks, and dive and snorkel amongst a myriad of world-class reef habitats, submerged indigenous sites, and, if you're lucky, alongside green turtles and humpback whales.

There are daily curated experiences, and personalised snorkelling and diving tours are available. To explore in style, indulge in a private cruise to the surrounding islands or set sail at sunset for sublime views.

For avid anglers, Hinchinbrook Island, Australia’s largest island national park, is ideal for catching fish such as black marlin, dogtooth tuna and Spanish mackerel, and also makes an ideal spot for helicopter tours and boat trips. Trek through rainforest to waterfalls and go saltwater crocodile-spotting in the waterways.
