When to go to Japan

Japan is a year-round destination, but its weather tends to be quite mixed depending on the region. Southern Honshu and Kyushu Island can be very warm, while the northern regions can be extremely cold with high snowfalls and temperatures as low as -25C in winter. Generally, winter is cold but dry, spring is warm with regular rains, summer is hot and humid, and autumn is warm with wet weather to start and dry to end. The rainy season is roughly June and July, while there is a risk of typhoons between July and mid-October.

We recommend travelling to Japan in spring - when the country erupts with the world-famous cherry blossoms - and autumn, when the changing colours of the leaves render the countryside even more beautiful than normal - undoubtedly the best times to go.
