Naries sits in an unspoilt corner of the Northern Cape, between the towns of Springbok and Kleinzee and in the shadow of the Spektakelberg mountain. The Orange River, the longest in South Africa, runs nearby and offers great opportunities for canoeing and camping.

At Naries, you’ll stay in one of just 3 luxurious en suite ‘mountain suites’: huge domes of rock which have been carved out into beautiful, rustic yet chic bedrooms. The rooms are atmospherically lit and decorated with natural wood elements and animal hides, adding to the Stone Age feel and reflecting the rugged beauty of the natural surroundings. Accommodation at Naries is also available at 2 luxury self-catering country Cape-style cottages, perfect for families, and in the Manor House, where 5 classically designed en suite rooms are available.

Breakfast and dinner are served in the dining room of the Manor House, with meals tailored to guests’ preferences and special dietary requirements well catered for. Breakfast takes the form of a hearty spread to set you up for a day’s adventures, while dinner is a sumptuous 3-course affair. Picnic baskets will be packed for your lunch if you are heading off on an excursion during the day. If you fancy eating out, Springbok has an array of good restaurants. Particularly recommended are the cosy Herb Garden Restaurant and Café, and Tauren Steak Ranch, where you can enjoy a delicious range of steaks, burgers and pizzas.

The Manor House has a pool available for the use of all guests, which is a great spot to cool off after a day’s exploration out in the sun. Children are welcome at Naries, and the mountain suites, with the exception of suite number 3, are suitable for elderly and disabled guests.

Nature lovers will find the land surrounding Naries to be a playground, with over 4,000 plant species living here; the area is particularly famous for its abundance of succulents. A great way to explore the region is with a canoe trip on the Orange River, which flows through diamond mines, strange rock formations and fertile plains home to a wide array of wildlife. South Africa’s longest river, its banks are home to elephant, giraffe and many other iconic African species. Trips can be arranged which will see you camping on the riverbanks in a true wilderness adventure.
