Jagged coastline meets crashing waves on the wonderfully wild Western & Northern Cape. It may not be the place for sunbathing, but it’s heaven for walking in the ocean-spray, dramatic sea views, and coastal paths strewn with wild flowers.
Whilst you’re staying in one of the fishermen-style cottages, it’s well worth going on a shipwreck tour, and paying a visit to the Cape Agulhas lighthouse which marks Africa’s most southerly point. Head in the other direction and you’ll see the northern desert-like landscapes erupt with a profusion of colourful wildflowers in Namaqualand or head inland to the savage beauty of Bushman’s Kloof to visit the ancient San rock paintings of the Cederberg Mountains.
