World famous for superlative wildlife viewing, Kruger and the surrounding private reserves’ iconic reputation is wholly justified. A cast of thousands of game await you in this strip of land that hugs the border with Mozambique, and acacia-dotted stretches of Savannah are just waiting for you to photograph.
Greater Kruger
Kruger is one of Africa's oldest game reserves with over a hundred years of preserving the fantastic wildlife. Awaiting you is a cast of thousands of game, from lion to elephant, crocodile to rhino, and wide open stretches of savannah. You'll see the most game in the south, pass through the mopane forest and herds of zebra in the centre of the park, while up in the far north near the mighty Limpopo you'll find true wilderness with hardly another soul. The Kruger is Africa just as you imagine it.
The Sabi Sand Game Reserve is a 65,000 hectare reserve, pioneered by the landowners in the 1950's. Even though there is a 50km unfenced boundary with the Kruger National Park, the game in Sabi Sand is well habituated, resulting in unforgettable close encounters and prolific sightings, particularly of the elusive leopard. The Sabi and the Sand Rivers run through the reserve, which add further dimension to the biodiversity of this area.
Panorama Route
The Panorama Route is a scenic route along the Mpumalanga Escarpment which is magnetised to the Blyde River Canyon, the third largest canyon in the world. Travelling above 2,000 metres above sea level, you’ll crest South Africa’s highest tarred roads to some incredible lookout points and be able to take in the natural landmarks of God’s Window, Bourke’s Luck Potholes, World’s View and the Three Rondavels. Stop at the viewpoints for superb vistas of plunging waterfalls and canyons and mountains draped in greenery, as well as keeping an eye out for the wealth of animal life, including klipspringers, dassies, oribi, kudu, bush pigs, monkeys and bush babies. The gateway town to the Panorama Route is Hazyview, a patchwork of farms and plantations with all of its roads leading to adventure.
