The landscape of the Eastern Cape is distinctive and instantly recognisable, with undulating hills punctuated by tall aloes, euphorbia and bushy cape scrub, as well as brightly-coloured traditional Xhosa houses, while Great Karoo, to the north of the province, is a great expanse of semi-desert plains and dramatic scenery. Highly successful conservation efforts in re-establishing the game that originally populated this area have seen large tracts of land converted into private game reserves, resulting in strong numbers of lions, elephants, leopards and rhinos - including the rare black rhino, which thrives on the nutrient-rich spekboom of the area.
The lodges of this malaria-free Eastern Cape area are exceptionally child friendly, as well as offering supreme luxury, panoramic views and fantastic safaris, where you can see the famous Big Five and much much more, including a wide variety of birds.
