A breezy stop off for self-drivers between Damaraland and Sossusvlei, Swakopmund is a lovely Germanic seaside town clinging to the Skeleton Coast.
Spend a couple of nights at Villa Margherita, a lovely owner-run colonial guesthouse, and from here can you potter to traditional German bakeries, devour delicious seafood at ‘The Tug’ (a retired tug boat on the seafront), and kayak out to the seal colony at Pelican Point.
