The 10 generously spaced glass and stone villas give the feeling of being totally alone in the desert. In the mornings you can watch the dunes burn red in the rising sun, and at night you can lie in bed and gaze up at the Milky Way. Everything is minimalist so that the surroundings are the focus, and even simple activities – like having a shower outside – feel wonderfully alien.

Activities at Sossusvlei Desert Lodge

Explore some of the highest sand dunes in the world on a quad bike or 4x4 drive, or marvel at the vast desert landscape from above on a breathtaking hot air balloon ride. Yet beneath this ocean of sand, you’ll also discover that the desert isn’t quite as uninhabitable as it seems. On morning nature drives, you’ll find out how plants and animals have adapted to this dry environment, including porcupines, aardwolves, and bat-eared foxes.
