Damaraland Camp

In a community conservancy in Damaraland, one of Namibia’s most wild and rugged areas.

There are 10 large canvas and thatch chalets, mostly with twin beds (though there is one family room). There are ensuite bathrooms and walk-in dressing rooms, but really, the nicest part of the tent (if you can call a 60 square metre room a tent!) is outside on the deck, overlooking the stark mountain scenery.

The heart of Damaraland Camp is the main area, or lapa, where there’s a small pool, bar and airy dining room. Most meals are eaten here, or on a clear night, outside in the boma. There’s also a reference library, and a campfire for end-of-day drinks and stargazing.

Damaraland certainly isn’t an area to visit in order to check off big game, but one of the major draws of this particular camp is the chance to spot the desert-adapted elephants. There are walks and drives around the area, as much to take in the wild and rugged scenery as for spotting any wildlife. If you'd like to get to know the people of Namibia, it’s also possible to visit the local school and farm homestead.
