Hotel Overview

Sense of Place

Sitting on the slopes of the Ruminahui volcano, Hacienda El Porvenir has a truly unique location surrounded by the natural beauty of the Andes. Four volcanoes surround the hotel, which sits at an altitude of 3,600m. The hacienda is a working cattle ranch, and is devoted to sustainable farming methods.

Rooms at Hacienda El Porvenir

The ranch is traditionally built and rich in character, with red adobe walls and thatched roofs. It was built using traditional, sustainable methods and materials, in line with the owners’ eco-friendly outlook. The lodgings, along with the stables, saddle room and corrals, are set out around a large courtyard. The rooms are rustic but comfortable, with exposed beams, adobe walls, and Andean textiles and rugs decorating the walls and floors. There are seven suites with cosy fireplaces, perfect for relaxing with a good book after a day’s hike.

Food & Drink

Dining at Hacienda El Porvenir is an authentic Andean experience, with delicious traditional dishes cooked on volcanic stone. Much of the produce that goes into the meals is grown on-site: fruits, vegetables and herbs are grown in the ranch’s gardens, and milk and cheese are produced from the ranch’s cows. Vegetarian diets are well catered for, along with other dietary requirements.

As this is a rural boutique hotel on a working cattle farm, a stay at Hacienda El Porvenir is all about retreating to nature and exploring the vast natural playground on the doorstep. There is Wifi available, however guests tend to take the opportunity to switch off which is part of the appeal of this hotel. Kids are welcome, and with a children’s playground as well as a games room, they are well catered for.

Activities at Hacienda El Porvenir

A range of guided hikes, tours and activities are on offer, from carefully planned all-inclusive excursions to one-off, independent adventures. The famous Cotopaxi volcano lies nearby, and a horseback ride is a great way to get to know the beautiful landscapes of the national park. Adventurous guests will love the six-day/five-night volcano trek, which takes in Cotopaxi as well as the nearby volcano of Pasochoa. En route, you’ll walk through diverse landscapes and learn about the area’s rich fauna, flora and geology from an expert guide.
