Hotel Overview

Sense of Place

Isabela is a peaceful island even by the standards of the Galapagos, with one small town and no tarmac roads. The hotel gets its name from the marine iguanas who can often be spotted crossing the road, and it certainly feels like the wildlife are in charge here. In keeping with its natural surroundings, the hotel was built with the extensive use of wood, stone and glass.

Rooms at Iguana Crossing

All the rooms have stunning views through their huge, floor-to-ceiling windows. Master Suites, Junior Suites and Ocean View Rooms overlook the sea, while Volcano View Rooms overlook the imposing Sierra Negra volcano and lush Scalesia forest. All rooms and suites are stylish and contemporary in their design, with beautiful wood-panelled ceilings. Some have private balconies where you can relax and take in the views.

Food & Drink

Iguana Crossing’s stylish, contemporary restaurant serves up a range of delicious cuisine drawing on the culinary traditions of the Galapagos and mainland Ecuador. Specialities include fresh seafood dishes such as ceviche and sancocho, an Ecuadorian fish soup. The hotel’s grill, carved from lava stone, is used to cook fresh produce, including fruit and vegetables, from the onsite farm and elsewhere on Isabela. The coffee and milk served here comes from the hotel’s own hacienda.

Facilities

On the main outdoor terrace, there’s a Jacuzzi for guests to relax in and take in 360-degree views of the ocean and the Sierra Negra volcano. A range of massage treatments are available, and it’s up to you whether to enjoy them on the beach or in the privacy of your own room.

Activities at Iguana Crossing

As ever in the Galapagos, Mother Nature is the star of the show here, and the hotel offers a range of short excursions and multi-day trips. On snorkelling trips to the nearby island chain of Las Tintoreras, you’ll spot sharks, sea lions, manta rays and sea turtles, among many other marine creatures. A three-day tour of Isabela will take you across its varied landscapes, from sandy beaches to murky mangroves and brackish lagoons, visiting the staggeringly diverse array of wildlife that live there, including the iconic giant tortoise. You’ll also visit historic sites such as the Wall of Tears, a volcanic structure built by prisoners when the island was a penal colony.
