Hotel Overview

Sense of Place

Kapawi Ecolodge was built by skilled Achuar craftsmen, a tribal people who have lived in the Amazon for thousands of years. They used sustainable local materials to create a hotel which is beautifully rustic but also supremely comfortable, and surrounded by the most biodiverse environment on earth, the Amazon rainforest.

Rooms at Kapawi Ecolodge

Kapawi’s cabins are circular in design with high thatched roofs, each one separate and private but connected by high wooden walkways. They are built entirely from local wood, and have screened-off sleeping areas with huge, comfortable beds, and bathrooms with hot, solar-powered water.

The huge range of wildlife which you will likely spot while relaxing in your hammock includes hummingbirds, egrets and kingfishers, though the cabins themselves are completely creature-proof. The sleeping areas also feature mosquito nets to keep out unwelcome insects.

Food & Drink

The food at Kapawi is very varied and of high quality, despite the lodge’s remote location. The kitchen gets going early, with breakfast available for early-rising birdwatchers from 5am. Lunch is served either in the dining room, or packed for you if you’re out on an excursion; porters will carry your food for you. Dinner, back at the restaurant, comprises classic Ecuadorian as well as traditional Achuar cuisine, further enhancing your authentic jungle experience. Vegetarians and those with other dietary requirements can be accommodated, too.

Facilities

The lakes are rivers around the lodge are safe to swim in and beautifully scenic, meaning there’s no need for a pool. There’s no Wi-Fi, which only adds to the remote, off-grid atmosphere, but a satellite internet connection is available in the main office for use in emergencies. There’s a boutique gift shop, where you can pick up a memento of your stay, and a cosy lounge area where you can relax and get to know your fellow guests.

Activities at Kapawi Ecolodge

Your stay at Kapawi will follow one of the hotel’s itineraries, which are of varying lengths and include various activities. You’ll explore the river on scenic canoe rides, stroll along beaches, and meet unique local wildlife such as the pink river dolphin; night walks around the hotel will help you spot the nocturnal creatures who transform the jungle after the sun goes down. All the guides are expert naturalists, who will ensure that your experience is as safe, enriching and educational as possible.
