Hotel Overview

Sense of Place

La Casona sits in flower and bird-filled gardens amongst the vineyards Chile's Rosario Valley, less than an hour from the cities of Santiago and Valparaiso.

Rooms at La Casona at Matetic Vineyards

The spacious rooms reflect the traditional colonial style, with fresh floral touches and polished wooden floors. Unsurprisingly, each one is named after a wine. Private terraces overlook the vineyards and a pretty courtyard brimming with flowers and shaded with palm trees – perfect for a vino-induced nap in the afternoon.

Food & Drink

There are two restaurants, including fine-dining Equilibrio, which has a great reputation with locals: perched next to the lantern-lit pond and overlooking the picturesque gardens, it serves delicious gourmet fare made from fresh regional produce, alongside Matetic's renowned wines. The chefs will also be happy to knock up something light to enjoy on your terrace, and for breakfast there’s a hearty buffet with hams, homemade breads and sheep’s milk cheese made on the estate.

Facilities

Take in the sun and relax on one of the day beds by the pool, and enjoy the panoramic views over the sweeping valley and vineyards with a refreshing drink from the pool bar. There's also a lounge with a pool table and an honesty bar, where you can cosy up by the fireplace.

Activities at La Casona at Matetic Vineyards

Learn all about the intricate process of producing wine at La Casona's state-of-the-art facilities, and afterwards, put your sommelier skills to the test by trying their finest selection of organic wines. Wine tasting sessions can also be arranged in the beautiful Rosario Valley, where you can find out how the region and climate affect the wine while enjoying the stunning scenery. The area's Syrah, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc wines are all fantastic. For children, there is delicious grape juice!

If you feel like a bit of a detox after this, you can hit the well-marked trails, or go mountain biking through beautiful prairies, forests, gorges and blueberry fields. Or saddle up a Chilote horse and go horse riding through the valleys and ravines, accompanied by a Chilean campero (cowboy). At the end of the day, cosy up by the fireplace in the living room.

Further afield, Viña del Mar makes a wonderful day trip. Browse the craft markets, rollerblade along the promenade and feast on fresh seafood from the day's catch. You could also visit the home of revered Chilean poet Pablo Neruda at Isla Negra.
